Who are the Schomberg Society?

The primary purpose of the Schomberg Society is to preserve and promote the culture of the Ulster-Scots people within the Kingdom of Mourne and beyond.

The Schomberg Society

The Schomberg Society originally established in 1998 is an Ulster-Scots community organisation with a town centre base, located in Kilkeel that provides a basic workable facility for our associated member groups and their various activities.

The Schomberg Society originally established in 1998 is an Ulster-Scots umbrella organisation with its Ulster-Scots hub, Reivers House, located in Kilkeel town centre.

The Society aims to promote and preserve all aspects of Ulster-Scots culture and identity through its numerous outreach projects and programmes. Reivers House is a busy Ulster-Scots hub with various Ulster-Scots activities, events and projects taking place most days and evenings in the week.

Since 1998, the Schomberg Society has worked with numerous Ulster-Scots groups, marching bands and loyal orders across the South Down area to build their capacity and help deliver projects, ensuring they are fit for purpose.

Educational outreach of Ulster-Scots culture, language and traditions is a vital aspect of the Schomberg Society’s work and the organisation continues to work with numerous schools, youth groups and community groups to better educate them as to our Ulster-Scots identity.

The Schomberg Society has over the years build up a reputation to be now recognised as one the most successful and forward thinking Ulster-Scots groups in Northern Ireland. Today, it is best known for its annual Reivers Festival centred around the 11th July and also for the broadcasting of its part-time Ulster-Scots Community Radio Station, Fusefm Mourne.
